Parent & Child Support

When everyday requests turn into arguments, routines become a struggle, or your child says “I can’t,” it can be difficult to know how to respond. You may find yourself moving between giving in, repeating yourself, and reacting more sharply than you intended.

Drawing on my work in education since 1999, I offer personal written guidance for parents who want to combine warmth, clear expectations, and steady leadership. Our conversation makes room for your child’s strengths and needs, as well as the pressures you carry as a parent.

Together, we can examine a specific situation, consider what you want your child to understand, and prepare a realistic response. This may include choosing words, setting a boundary, or making one part of the daily routine more manageable.

All support takes place in writing, in English, Spanish, or French. The guidance is for you as a parent; it does not include assessing or treating your child and does not replace professional care when needed.

Staying Connected While Setting Clear Limits

Perhaps mornings are tense, homework leads to conflict, or every “no” becomes a negotiation. We can begin with one recent example: what happened, what each person said, and what you would like to handle differently.

Our conversation can focus on giving a clear instruction, acknowledging disappointment, following through on a reasonable limit, or reconnecting after an argument. We can also look for opportunities to notice effort and encourage your child’s growing independence.

The aim is to develop a response you can use in your own home, with room to learn and adjust when things do not go as planned.

Questions About Parent & Child Support

What should I include in my first message?

Tell me your child’s age, describe one recent situation, and explain what you found difficult. It helps to include what you said or tried and how your child responded. Please avoid sharing identifying details that are not needed.

Can you help me find the words to use with my child?

Yes. We can prepare a clear, respectful way to make a request, set a limit, acknowledge a feeling, or return to a difficult conversation. Suggestions will be adapted to your child’s age and the circumstances you describe.

What if my child refuses to cooperate?

We can look at a specific example and consider the request, the timing, your response, and what is realistically within your control. The focus is on your choices as a parent and a practical next step. I cannot guarantee how your child will respond.

What if I shouted or handled something badly?

You can bring that experience without needing to present yourself as a perfect parent. We can explore how to take responsibility for your response, reconnect with your child, and communicate the boundary or expectation more clearly next time.

Can I ask about both younger children and teenagers?

Yes. Please include your child’s age so the guidance can reflect their stage of development. With teenagers, our conversation may focus more on communication, responsibility, independence, and maintaining connection while setting limits.

Does my child take part in the written conversation?

No. This service is a written conversation with you as the parent. You can reflect on your approach and consider suggestions to try at home. It does not include direct sessions with your child or an evaluation of their needs.
